Join Hannah Lavery for this monthly online writing group! Last Friday of the month, 12-1pm.
One of our regular monthly writing groups, facilitated by Hannah Lavery, features workshop exercises with different themes each week to get you writing.
In December 2020, the Writers of Colour Writing Group celebrated the year by producing an audio anthology, 2020 Mixtape, curated by Hannah. As the group develops work over 2021, there will be opportunities for sharing work and we plan to produce another audio anthology at the end of the year.
This group is popular and often fully booked, though spaces may sometimes become available. We encourage you to book all sessions if possible.
Essential items include: access to the internet, and something to write with or on, plus camera and/or mic (you may keep these off if you wish).

- All events are free.
- All events are suitable for people 18+ years.
- Events are hosted online using Zoom (instructions will be sent 2 days before each event or can be accessed via the Eventbrite Online Event page).
- To participate you will need an internet/wi-fi connection, a desktop or mobile device to join by audio and/or video and writing materials/device.
- Automatic live captions and transcripts are provided via Otter.ai. Please add your access requirements during registration (for example BSL/in-person captioner) and we’ll do our best to provide.
- You may mute your mic/switch off video or take a break at any time.

About Hannah Lavery
Hannah Lavery is an award-winning poet, playwright, performer and experienced workshop facilitator. Her poetry has been published widely and her poem, Scotland, you’re no mine, was selected by Roseanne Watt as one of the Best Scottish Poems 2019. The Drift, her autobiographical play, toured Scotland as part of the National Theatre of Scotland’s Season 2019. In 2020, she was awarded a New Playwrights’ Award by the Playwrights Studio Scotland and selected by Owen Sheers’ as one of his Ten Writers Asking Questions That Will Shape Our Future for the International Literature Showcase, a project from the National Writing Centre and the British Council. In 2020, she was also selected as one of the Scottish Voices for BBC Writers’ Room. Hannah is one of Imaginate’s Accelerator Artists and an Associate Artist with the National Theatre of Scotland. In November 2020, her highly acclaimed play Lament for Sheku Bayoh was directed by Hannah in a co-production with the Royal Lyceum Theatre, National Theatre of Scotland and Edinburgh International Festival. She has recently been selected for the Adopt a Playwright Award by offwestend.com and is under commission by Pitlochry Festival Theatre to adapt Jekyll and Hyde for their upcoming Summer Season.
