An evening of performance, sharing, and connection with fellow writers of colour!
Join us for our Winter Showcase on Thursday 15 December at 7pm-9:00pm.
Please be mindful when booking. This is an event for Asian writers based in Scotland (or who, pre-COVID, would have normally been resident in Scotland) and Black writers based in the UK and Ireland.
For writers of East Asian, South Asian, Southeast Asian, West Asian, and/or mixed heritage
+ writers who are Black/from the African diaspora (incl. mixed heritage)
We’re excited to be closing out 2022 with our first joint writers group event: a Winter Showcase featuring performers from our Scottish Black Writers Group and our Asian Writers Group!
This is a great chance to meet other writers of colour and celebrate the talent and creativity that exists among us and in SBWN as a whole.
If you’re interested in reading your work, please apply via this Google Form here. We’ll be closing it on 8 December so get your expressions of interest in! No prior reading experience required, although we will be giving priority to people who have previously attended our writers’ group(s).
Readers will be paid £50 for a reading of 5-7 minutes. We plan to have about 10 readers in total (5 readers from the Scottish Black Writers, 5 readers from Asian Writers!).
If you’re applying to read your work, please ensure that you are legally able to receive payments on a freelance basis so that we can pay you!
You can read anything you want as long as it’s your own original work and fits into the 5- to 7-minute time slot! This could include:
- writing you started during a writers’ group session and then developed into something more polished
- all-new work
- older work that you haven’t shared in our sessions
- or anything else that you haven’t shared with us (in its current/most recent form)!
Although we will unfortunately not be able to select all applicants to read on the night, we want to emphasise that if you apply to read but are not selected, this is not negative feedback on your writing. Your creativity is so valued by us personally, your fellow writers, and the SBWN team!
Alternately, if you just want to listen to your fellow writers and cheer them on, we warmly welcome you to come along and join in the evening! There may be writers there whose work you’ve never heard before, so this is a great chance to discover new creativities and sources of inspiration.
