Creative Balance pieces are now live!

We are excited to publish the pieces commissioned through our Creative Balance partnership with We Are Here Scotland (WAHS)!

Creative Balance is a multi-strand mental health research initiative focusing on BPOC creatives in Scotland. This partnership centres on the first research strand, which explores how BPOC-led creative spaces can and do function as protective factors for mental health within Scotland’s creative sector.

The pieces selected for publication – jointly published both on our site on and with WAHS – deal with the factors that circumscribe, hollow out, expand, and enrich the spaces where we create.

  • Rianna Onzivu navigates the relationships between embodied, non-linear concepts of time and space in a tribal Ugandan context.
  • Harrinei Kumaravel traces the spatial limitations and liberations of inherited destiny within a South Asian female diaspora of resistance.
  • Kadija Bouyzorn invites us to reconsider the colonial, gendered standards by which we as BPOC creators define creative capacity.

Many thanks to WAHS and to everyone who submitted pitches! We greatly appreciate your contributions to our networks, and will be offering more opportunities in the near future.
