We are excited to publish the pieces commissioned through our Creative Balance partnership with We Are Here Scotland (WAHS)!
Creative Balance is a multi-strand mental health research initiative focusing on BPOC creatives in Scotland. This partnership centres on the first research strand, which explores how BPOC-led creative spaces can and do function as protective factors for mental health within Scotland’s creative sector.
The pieces selected for publication – jointly published both on our site on and with WAHS – deal with the factors that circumscribe, hollow out, expand, and enrich the spaces where we create.
- Rianna Onzivu navigates the relationships between embodied, non-linear concepts of time and space in a tribal Ugandan context.
- Harrinei Kumaravel traces the spatial limitations and liberations of inherited destiny within a South Asian female diaspora of resistance.
- Kadija Bouyzorn invites us to reconsider the colonial, gendered standards by which we as BPOC creators define creative capacity.
