Join Ellah Wakatama for this 3-hour, online Masterclass!


The Editing Prose masterclass with Ellah Wakatama, Editor-at-Large at Canongate and Chair of the AKO Caine Prize for African Writing, will focus on a key set of tools for writers editing their own work with a focus on critical reading and key elements of fiction and non-fiction.

There will be time at the end for a 30 minute Q&A, so get your questions ready!

Essential items include: access to the internet, a working camera and mic, and pen and paper

The Details


    • There is a max of 15 spaces.
    • This event will be three hours long, as opposed to our regular 2-hour workshops.
    • This masterclass will be hosted online using Zoom (instructions will be sent to participants closer to the workshop date).
    • The event will conclude with a 30 minute Q+A discussion between Ellah Wakatama and the participants about the process of editing one’s own work (prose). Please think of questions you would like to ask.
    • The masterclass includes a 10-15min comfort break.
    • There are two types of tickets: Free tickets for writers on low-income and Pay What You Can £1+ Donations. 
    • Our free events are very popular and have a waitlist. If you have registered for a ticket but then are unable to attend please do let us know so we can offer it to another person on the waitlist. Thank you!

About Ellah

Ellah Wakatama is Editor-at-Large at Canongate and Chair of the AKO Caine Prize for African Writing. She is also Senior Research Fellow at the University of Manchester. She has worked for Penguin, Random House and Granta and she was the founding Publishing Director of The Indigo Press. She has been a judge for several international prizes including The David Cohen Prize, The Man Booker Prize and the International Dublin Literary Award.
