In the wake of the recent Supreme Court ruling and EHRC statements regarding sex and gender, SBWN wants to emphasise our commitment to providing a safe, welcoming space for Scotland’s trans, non-binary, genderqueer, and agender writers of colour.
We will continue to stand against the violence of trans erasure and transphobia for all people affected, especially when these harms are normalised by being written into law. We also condemn the failure of human rights bodies to uphold the humanity of trans and non-gender-conforming people.
We recognise and affirm the wide variety of gender constructs and identities across cultures worldwide, which cannot always be fully expressed by Western, Anglophone, or other colonialist terminology.
In our partnerships, we will continue making every effort to avoid partnering with organisations and initiatives that are complicit in or take actions to normalise transphobia.
