We are changing the way we organise our events – help shape the event in advance so it can be all you want it to be!
Your excitement for our events shapes what we offer.
Every RSVP helps us create better sessions, bring in more of what you love, and use our resources wisely.
Event Description
Please be mindful when booking. This is a session for Black writers & writers of colour* based in Scotland.
All SBWN events will adhere to our Safer Spaces Policy. You can learn more about our policy here.
At SBWN we pride ourselves on being an access first, disabled led organisation. We prioritise our communities’ requirements to ensure as many people as possible can enjoy our programming.
It will be a free, catered event in a relaxed, social environment to come together to consider:
- What does access actually mean to you?
- What does access look like in practice and where do we have space to grow?
Join us for a social with access consultant and creative practitioner nxa!
Save the date: To be determined.
The venue: To be determined.
During the social there will be:
- Yummy food
- Writing prompts and activities by a wonderful writer from our community
- Facilitated discussion and ways to reflect and input ideas about access with our access consultant nxa
- Quiet space
- Space to hang out and socialise with fellow writers
Come hang out with us in a calm and cosy environment. We can’t wait to see you there!
Fill out the interest form below and we will build the event based on our collective availability and requirements by 8th of July.
About nxa

They have been commissioned by Cooper Gallery (2025), Take Me Somewhere and the Centre for the Less Good Idea (2023), Jupiter Rising (2022) and Transplant Imaginaries/CBSS (2021).
Since 2018 nxa has co-founded and organised grassroots initiatives focussed on cultural engagement, mutual aid and artist development with people of queer, trans and racialised experiences.
They are interested in collaborative embodied practices, for growing decolonial relations in communities and workplaces.
FAQ
When you fill out our interest form, you are essentially joining an early waitlist for advance notification. When we reach a certain number of registrations we can then confirm the event and you will be notified first when everything is official to secure your spot.
Filling out the interest form is free of charge. Once the event is confirmed and announced, tickets may then need to be purchased in order to officially register attendance. However, some bursaries are available for travel, (child)care fees, and data costs.
We aim to let folks know when the event is going forward, a venue is secured, or tickets have gone live, within a few weeks of the interest list closes. The timeline can vary depending on the scale of the event.
Yes. If you are no longer available or want to attend, email us to let us know and we’ll remove your email address from our mailing list. We will only contact you with communications about this event.
You do not need a disability diagnosis to attend or register interest for this event.
This event aims to cover all aspects of accessibility, including but not limited to: disability, socioeconomic disadvantage, carer/childcare responsibilities, neurodivergence, and/or chronic health issues.
We will never ask for proof of diagnosis, lack of funds, or any other ‘official’ documentation in these respects. A key part of our commitment to accessibility is self-determination, where our members are free to define their identities and experiences on their own terms.
