Q&A on applying to the New Writers Awards: 22nd June 2026, 18:00pm
Interested in applying to the New Writers Award 2027? Scottish Book Trust is hosting a Q&A info session on the awards and application process, for Scottish BPOC Writers Network members.
The New Writers Award highlights and nurtures some of the most exciting new writing talent in Scotland. Previous awardees include Nadine Aisha Jassat, Rachelle Atalla, Martin MacInnes, among a host of others. In 2027, there will be a place awarded for The Kavya Prize, an award supporting emerging writers of colour. The Callan Gordon Award, an award set up to celebrate the life of young Scottish writer Callan Gordon, will also open in 2027. This award is for writers aged between 18 and 35 who are writing either poetry or short stories. Find out more about the New Writers Award.
This Q&A will take place on Monday 22 June, 18:00 to 19:00, via Teams. Scottish Book Trust’s Writing Communities team will offer some top tips and answer your questions on the applying to the New Writers Awards.
A transcript of the full session will be available upon request to anyone unable to attend. A recording of the ‘top tips’ part of the session (prior to the participatory Q&A) will also be available upon request. Close captioning will be available throughout the session.
