Join us on 1 July for an interactive workshop with Marjorie Lotfi, exploring editing your poetry.

In this poetry editing workshop, you’ll discover several ways to edit your poems, from line length and space on the page, to repetition, titles and more. Understand how to put your first drafts through their paces and how to refine and polish your poems into a version more ready to go out into the world. You do not need to bring any work; example poems will be used.
We have a few caregiver/childcare (£30) and data (£8) bursaries for participants on low incomes. If you will need a bursary to attend, please complete our form and we’ll do our best to help.
Facilitator
Marjorie Lotfi is an award-winning poet, seasoned performer, facilitator of creative writing, poetry mentor, and co-founder of Open Book. Her poems have been included in Best Scottish Poems, won competitions and been performed live across Scotland and on BBC Radio 4/Radio Scotland. They have also been widely published, including in Being Human, London’s Poems on the Underground, and journals such as The Rialto, Gutter, Rattle, Ambit and Magma, and have been commissioned for a number of anthologies. Marjorie is one of the ILX 10 ‘Rising Stars of UK Writing’ and Royal Literary Fund Fellow. Refuge, poems about her childhood in revolutionary Iran, is published by Tapsalteerie. She is a winner of the inaugural James Berry Prize, and her first collection, The Wrong Person to Ask (by Bloodaxe Books) is a Poetry Book Society Special Commendation, longlisted for the 2024 Saltire Prize (Best Poetry Book of the Year), and won the Forward Prize for Best First Collection.

Before participating in the online workshop, please note the following:
- Black writers and writers of colour based in Scotland.
- The event will take 90 minutes
- It will include a comfort break.
- Session has a suggested donation amount, but please register for free or for a smaller amount if that suits your needs. No questions asked.
- We have a number of data and child/carer bursaries available – request a bursary by completing our form.
- Event is hosted online (link will be sent to participants closer to the date).
- To participate you will need an internet/wi-fi connection, a desktop or mobile device.
- You may mute your mic/switch off video, or take a break at any time.
