Join SBWN Team – Admin and Media Support Part-Time Job

Join the SBWN team as Admin and Media Support! From managing our inbox, maintaining the network’s partnerships or looking after our social media, this role is perfect for a BPOC individual with a strong skill set in digital communication and social media. Digital events management experience is a bonus but not essential. There will be opportunity to gain experience and input in arts programming and co-curation. This will be an enjoyable role for someone who has strong organisational skills, a heart for writing and our BPOC writers community, and an interest in Scotland’s literary landscape.

Duration: August 2022 – May 2023
10 months, with scope to extend beyond May 2023 (based on funding)

Fee: £4,500 (£450/per month)
30 hours per month at £15/per hour, freelance, paid monthly on receipt of invoice

Role Description

This is an administrative and communications role which includes events management, creative thinking and marketing tasks, with the opportunity to gain some experience in editorial work, arts programming and co-curation.

This is a remote, freelance position with flexible hours, for a person who identifies as BPOC and is based in Scotland. A handful of meetings and events will be in person. 

Responsibilities

  • Serving as SBWN’s first point of contact by managing our inbox
  • Liaising with partners and artists, and responding to enquiries
  • Assisting with organisational tasks related to SBWN event programming
  • Regularly updating and circulating information on our social media channels
  • Moderating our social media channels and Facebook group
  • Supporting the Communications Manager and SBWN team with digital activities, including:
    • Creating images on Canva* for events, website* and social media
    • Updating our website, Eventbrite* and newsletter* with various opportunities

*Training will be provided for working with tools and apps the team uses, such as Asana (project management), Clockify (logging hours), Canva (image creation), MailChimp (newsletter), Zoom and Otter (online events), website (WordPress) and Eventbrite (event booking). 

Familiarity with word processing, email apps and at least 2 social media apps is expected

You will become a member of our Operational Core Team – each team member:

  • Shares SBWN values and is passionate about inclusive programming (particularly creating environments and programmes free of racism, ableism, queer and transphobia, anti-blackness, classism)
  • Is passionate about SBWN’s advocacy work
  • Is familiar with the literary industry and creative writing, or has experience within the literary industry as a performer or published writer (This includes all mediums. It is not required that applicants have a full-length book.)
  • Has experience or wishes to gain experience with event and arts programming
  • Has strong organisation and communication skills, as well as an ability to prioritise and adapt to new situations
  • Enjoys working with others, including other staff, partners, and our network members
  • Co-curates and coordinates SBWN’s programming, and reviews open call submissions
  • Attends at least 80% of monthly committee meetings – typically first Sunday of the month
  • Is comfortable being one of the faces of our organisation
