Asian Writers Focus Group – 8th September 2021

Calling all Asian writers in/from Scotland!

Join us for our Asian Writers Focus Group on Wednesday 8 September at 7pm-8:30pm. Sign up here!

Please be mindful when booking. This is a focus group for Asian writers based in Scotland (or who, pre-COVID, would have normally been resident in Scotland).

For writers of East Asian, Southeast Asian, South Asian, West Asian, and/or mixed heritage

While SBWN always strives to include all writers of colour in and from Scotland in our events and opportunities, we realise that we can do better in terms of providing spaces that are specifically dedicated to Asian writers. We are particularly eager to connect with representatives and members of Asian collectives in Scotland, in an effort to exchange ideas and forge partnerships for the future ahead.

This one-off focus group (led by Alycia Pirmohamed and Kelly Kanayama) is a chance for Asian writers to tell us, directly and in real time, what you’d like to see from SBWN going forward. We want to hear from you on what projects we should take on, how our network can expand its offerings to create more spaces for Asian members, how we can give Asian writers more chances to connect with each other, and more! There will also be the opportunity to provide written feedback to the SBWN committee about these various aspects.

We’ll be using breakout rooms to allow for more in-depth discussions, then bringing participants back together to talk about their conclusions and key issues raised. There will also be a collaborative document for participants to add their ideas as they go if they wish.

All participants will receive a £20 book token as thanks for sharing their time, effort and expertise.

Essential items include: access to the internet, a working camera and mic, and pen and paper
